How to Meditate

When I began meditating, I was running from my depression. I hated how I was feeling all the time. Constant low moods, unhappiness and lots and lots of unsettling thoughts about myself and the future. I stumbled upon meditation in a Kundalini Yoga class when my teacher taught me the power of using our breathe to calm our emotions and center ourselves.

I was hooked! Even though my mind wouldn't stop running - I just felt a sense of home every time I became present with myself. I began meditating with the Kirtan Kriya Meditation, which Yogi Bhajan says is the one meditation we should all do. I took it on as my 40 day practice and it changed my life. I share all about it over here.

Then, I went onto silent meditation. At first it was very difficult to sit through the stillness yet amplified loudness of my mind, but like anything in life everything always feels hard the first few times we do it. If we can move beyond the resistance and be open, then we come to realize our own strength and power.

Now meditation is practice that I don't go a day without because I know that only a quiet mind can hear God, Universe, Source. Just like you need to plug your phone into an electrical outlet to charge it, you need to plug yourself into Divine Consciousness to recharge yourself! This is what meditation does.

We don't meditate to stop thought, we meditate to be with our thoughts. Then, we can understand the nature of our thinking.

In the video below, I share with you how to meditation and bust two of the most common meditation quarrels I hear often.
